Convenient Solutions

Convenient Solutions is a web design and IT consulting firm based in Auburn, WA with the focus of helping small businesses leverage their web presence and IT infrastructure. My name is Quentin Christensen and I am the owner and currently the only employee of Convenient Solutions. I will graduate spring 2008 from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Science in Informatics. I grew up working part time in my family’s business and did web development and general tech support as early as 1997. In 1999 I began working in technical and networking support at A&L Consulting / FutureNET, a small Internet Service Provider and IT solutions firm. From 2002-2004 I worked as an auto sales consultant, finance manager, and sales manager while developing my technical skills by doing additional work outside of my job.

In 2005 I returned to the family business and began working on my undergraduate degree. From 2005-2008 I have worked as Information Systems and Project Manager for Powell-Christensen Inc. As part of my job I have managed technical projects, developed company websites, analyzed and implemented major IT projects, and presented information for decision making to executive management. During the past few years I have developed my technical and management skills on the job and through my coursework at the University of Washington.

You do everything, are you good at anything?

I don’t claim to be an expert anything, but you can expect quality, professional work from me. I can offer the variety of services I do because I am knowledgeable and experienced in all these areas. On large projects or for large companies I would focus on something and become strongly skilled in one area, however for small web and IT projects that most small businesses need I believe someone who can do a variety of things is often better suited for the job. Not only can I can perform work less expensively than large consulting or development firms, but I understand the needs of small businesses and can complete a small project from start to finish saving time and money.

What is Informatics?

Informatics is a relatively new discipline in the United States. At the University of Washington Informatics is defined as the study of information systems from a human centered perspective. Students in the undergraduate Informatics program study databases, networking, information, computer science, research methods, user centered design, information retrieval, information behavior, and systems analysis. At the University of Washington I have been the Informatics Undergraduate Association President and Student Representative on the Informatics Program Committee, as well as serving in several other positions and roles.
